Hot Vintage Microphones

Custom Mics  - see Hot Mics
A great fit for your hands. Beautifully painted and lacquered Turner shell with an indented volume control–one click and hold per turn–and the cable just plugs into the bottom. Inside are the hottest 1950′s controlled reluctance elements, or depending on availability, a controlled magnetic or even a crystal. The crystals are in JT30 custom shells. Check out the Reviews section for happy mic customers.

CR/CM Microphone Repair & Supercharging

Chuck Gurney

I have personally been working with Chuck for about four years now, and he is a genius at his craft. He will let you know if a microphone is just not fixable due to a broken winding or some other problem. Otherwise, Chuck can get get more output and tone from an almost good mic. He has brought back some from the dead for me, and is very reasonable in his pricing for the amount of time he spends on them. The element comes back with fresh leads ready to solder on. I literally have owned thousands of CR/CM microphones and have come to respect Chuck for being able to rescue some that otherwise would have been in the trash.

And just to lay something to rest that has been a myth for so long–the ohms reading of the microphone means nothing. Just because it may read 1.28K doesn’t mean it will have full output and bottom end. I have some super hot ones at 1.05K. There are a lot of factors that could be interfering with it being a good strong bottom-end mic. You have the Sonny Jr. promise that Chuck is a straight-up guy to deal with.
